Projects
The Corporal Hoffman Series pairs a hero with a designer. Together, the two parties collaborate in order to share that hero’s story through the medium of art and design. The result of their work is then produced into a commercial product available for the public to purchase.
The Corporal Hoffman Series is inspired by its namesake, U.S. Marine Corporal Josh Hoffman. The [FHH] team met CPL Hoffman at a local veteran’s event near Grand Rapids, Michigan. Confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak, we learned about CPL Hoffman’s story through his communicator.
While stationed in Iraq, CPL Hoffman was in heavy pursuit of a suspected terrorist when he was struct down by an unseen sniper’s bullet. The bullet entered his neck and exited his shoulder blade, shattering his upper spine and leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. The bullet also severely damaged his vocal cords, making him unable to talk. Already having gone through years of intense physical rehabilitation and therapy and with many years yet to go, CPL Hoffman has kept an amazingly positive attitude and yearned to give back to his brothers and sisters in arms. We then learned that one of Josh’s dreams was to design a t-shirt.
